THE county’s community hospitals and mental health wards have been given a clean bill of health following a recent environmental inspection.
PLACE (Patient–Led Assessment of the Care Environment) assess inpatient areas for their cleanliness; quality of the food provided; how they protect privacy and dignity of patients; their general condition and maintenance; and how suitable they are for patients with dementia or a disability.
The community hospitals at Princess of Wales in Bromsgrove, Evesham, Pershore, Malvern, Tenbury, Worcester City and Wyre Forest) all scored 100 per cent for cleanliness.
Following the trend, all sites inspected achieved above average in the privacy, dignity and wellbeing domain, with New Haven in Bromsgrove awarded 100 per cent.
Carole Clive, The Trust’s Nurse Consultant for Infection Prevention and Control said: “The results are a credit to clinical, housekeeping, maintenance and catering teams as well as the wider Trust and reflect the importance that is placed on ensuring patients are cared for with compassion and dignity in a clean, safe environment.”
The Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) are an annual assessment of the non-clinical aspects of the patient environment, how it supports patients’ privacy and dignity, and its suitability for patients with specific needs e.g. disability or dementia.
The county’s community hospitals and mental health services are provided by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust.
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides the acute hospital services at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Worcestershire Royal in Worcester.
