Classical music concert in Pershore to raise funds for Air Ambulance charity

A UNIQUE concert of classical music will take place at Pershore Abbey on April 13 to raise cash for the Midlands Air Ambulance charity.

The evening, which starts at 7.30pm, will see Pershore composer Andrew Hemming and a small army of volunteer musicians and singers take centre stage.

The charity is a cause close to Andrew’s heart. A road accident – which happened decades before Andrew’s birth took the life of his late grandad’s 18-year-old son, Stephen.

Andrew said: “One of the many ‘what ifs’ grandad since asked of that day was what if the air ambulance had operated back then?

“Would its services have improved Stephen’s chance of survival?

“It inspired Andrew to help others avoid that awful ‘what if’ question.”

A 41-strong choir and 46-piece orchestra are set to perform ‘In Paradisum’ – an original Requiem composed by Andrew.

The varied programme also features an organ solo from renowned local musician John Wilderspin and music by American composer Keith Jarrett played by acclaimed concert pianist Marcel Zidani.

Andrew said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for giving their time and talents for free.

“Together, we aim to raise enough cash for one of our Midlands Air Ambulance’s life-saving missions, but that’s down to people’s support.

“Let’s keep our air ambulance funded for all.”

Tickets are available at Blue in Broad Street, Pershore Town Hall, or online at Ticket Source.
