KIND-HEARTED volunteers at Evesham Methodist Church have revealed its vital ‘warm spaces’ lifeline could continue into the warmer months
While winter has given way to spring and the promise of warmer weather, church chiefs have revealed they would like to continue it on a Monday and Tuesday.
Warm Spaces were set up across the country last year with each space offering something different.
Some may offer free food; pay-it-forward schemes, advice, somewhere to charge your phone or maybe just somewhere to be comfortable and warm with no judgement.
With the cost-of-living crisis, many of us are facing tough decisions. Some of us have moved to working from home following the pandemic and are facing a winter with increased energy bills.
Others are facing even harder decisions about whether to heat or eat.
Warm Spaces is designed to signpost anyone in need of warmth, to a warm space to share with others.
In it’s weekly newsletter, the church said: “We had a chat and decided that, if we could, we would continue to open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
“Although the need for warm spaces is fading as the weather warms up, the need for a welcoming space is still there.
“There are people who would like a chat and we have lots of visitors who just come for company or to be sociable. We play games and do jigsaws and offer a quiet space just to read.”
“However, we do need people to offer time. Please check the list on the noticeboard and pencil in all the dates you can manage, it is really a worthwhile way to spend a couple of hours over the summer months.” the newsletter read.
The church is also bidding to tidy up the area around the church while the sign at the top of the slope about parking needs re-painting and mending or replacing.
