Number 8’s winter season is well underway packed with live events, event cinema and film screenings, workshops, and exhibitions.
Following the success of Orchestra of the Swan’s Midwinter concert and sellouts for PODS’ panto Puss in Boots, the season continues with festive treats with an evening of carols, wassails, winter folk songs, and festive favourites with Festive Folk tomorrow (Thursday, December 19) at 7.30pm.
To continue the Christmas spirit there is Friday’s (December 20) screening of André Rieu’s 2024 Christmas Concert at 2pm, followed by screenings of The Nutcracker from the Royal Ballet on Saturday, December 21 Dec, 7pm and Sunday, December 22 at 2pm.
Number 8 has lined up a feast of films that are perfect for family outings to keep cinemagoers entertained over the holidays. There is the opportunity to discover the untold story of the witches of Oz in the hit new film Wicked (PG), and join Moana and Maui for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers in Moana 2 (PG).
For fantasy fans, there’s the epic anime adventure Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (12A). Plus, there’s another chance to enjoy the latest escapades of everyone’s favourite marmalade-loving bear in Paddington in Peru (PG).
Holiday screenings kick off with Paddington on December 20, 7.30pm; December 23, 2pm and 7.30pm; December 23, 11am, continue with Wicked on December 27, 2pm & 7.30pm; December 28, 7.30pm; December 30, 11am; plus a screening with subtitles for those with hearing loss on January 2, 7.30pm.
Moana 2 on December 28, 2pm; December 30, 2pm (Relaxed Screening); January 2, 11am, and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (12A) on January 4, 2pm. Tickets cost £9 full price and £8.50 for concessions including seniors, students and children.
Into the new year you can enjoy an afternoon with Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra on January 11 and later in the month Blues legends Paul Jones & Dave Kelly will be performing a live acoustic set at the centre on January 30.
For Sherlock Holmes fans on February 11 there’s the one-man play Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act for mystery buffs and The Frog & The Princess and Other Stories for the little ones on February 17.
Event cinema screenings continue into 2025 with more ballet and opera broadcasts from the Royal Ballet & Opera, musicals Girl from the North Country and Les Misérables: The Staged Concert, and top-quality theatre including Macbeth with David Tennant and Cush Jumbo and Dr Who star Ncuti Gatwa in The Importance of Being Earnest.
Highlights from the winter film line-up include screenings of Wicked, the eagerly anticipated adaptation of the hit stage musical, WWII drama Blitz, historical epic Gladiator II, and the French comedy drama It’s Raining Men.
All this plus Foyer Folk, Sip and Sketch afternoons, Language Cafés and exhibitions in The Foyer, and Chance to Dance weekly classes for over 55s enrolling now for the spring term.
