Chipping in with £11k for charities

GOLF-MAD staff at Evesham firm swapped flooring for the fairways to raise £11,000 in support of three charities as part of its annual charity golf day at Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel in Tewkesbury.

Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals, Epilepsy Action and Vale of Evesham School will all benefit from the charity event after Karndean Designflooring staff teed off for the causes.

Former World Snooker Champion Steve Davis swapped his cue for clubs in a four ball for the day and gave an inspiring after-dinner speech.

The event also featured a raffle and an auction, with prizes including a signed Aston Villa football in a presentation case, tickets to an Aston Villa Football Club home game with hospitality, VIP tickets to a British Touring Car Championship 2019 event, tickets to watch England rugby team play Japan at Twickenham Stadium, an overnight stay at The Evesham Hotel and a Fortnum and Mason hamper.

Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals charity aims to improve local hospitals for everyone in the community, investing in state of the art equipment, improvements to facilities and care over and above that provided by the NHS; benefiting patients including those fighting cancer, people experiencing strokes or dementia, heart patients and new babies with serious illness.

Epilepsy Action exists to improve the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy. As well as campaigning to improve epilepsy services, the charity offers a national network of branches, epilepsy awareness volunteers, freephone and email helplines.

Vale of Evesham School is a specialist school for Cognition and Learning, and works with parents/carers, schools and other agencies in our community to share practice and improve opportunities and life chances for all our young people.

Paul Barratt, managing director of Karndean Designflooring, said: “We appreciate the time and immense effort that went into organising this event, and I extend my thanks to everyone who attended.

“In particular, I would like to thank Steve Davis for giving his time to join us for this fundraising event and also to the many businesses that donated such amazing prizes for our auction and raffle. It is due to the dedication and generosity of all those involved in the event that made it such a success,” he added.
