YOUNG bookworms at St Mary’s Primary School in Broadway welcomed revered children’s poet and author Joshua Seigal to the classrooms for a day of exclusive performances and workshops.

Mr Seigal, author of critically acclaimed books such as ‘I Don’t Like Poetry’, ‘Little Lemur Laughing’ and ‘I Bet I Can Make You Laugh’ is a National Poetry Day Ambassador and works with children to use poetry to develop literacy skills and inspire confidence and creativity in communication.

His visit to Broadway saw him perform a number of his favourite poems as well as work with children in each class to inspire them to develop their own poetry ahead of a recital day in school next month.

Jen Croke, co-head of St Mary’s School, said: “Joshua’s lively and funny delivery immediately grabbed the children’s imagination. He showed my class very effective ways to use language which inspired them to create their own poetry masterpieces.

Emer Harrison, co-head, added: “Joshua was engaging, exciting and thoroughly inspiring – the whole school became poets for the day!

“My class continued to write and create their own work after he had gone and every child produced a poem of which they were very proud.”
