CHILDREN from a local primary school were treated to an animal masterclass from supported learning students at Pershore College.
The animal welfare event saw students from Pershore College’s supported learning course invite youngsters from nearby Cropthorne-With-Charlton CE First School to attend the colourful occasion.
Youngsters were taught all about the small mammals and reptiles on show and those brave enough were encouraged to touch or hold them.
Bryony Baulch, technician instructor for supported learning, Pershore College, part of the WCG group, said: “The students have been planning this event for several weeks and they have all done brilliantly.
“The main objective of the day was for them to enjoy themselves. Because of the needs that our students have, just organising the event was a massive achievement.
“To have more than 25 small children gathered together could potentially be overwhelming for many students but to see them not only coping with the situation but thriving with it was great.
Louise Badham, head of department for Supported Learning, Re-engagement and Schools at Pershore College, said:
“We offer supported learning foundation courses to students from the age of 14 years.
“Some of our students may not have had a great time at school. They may suffer with anxiety or there might also have been other circumstances which stopped them from reaching their full potential.
“For some of our students, meeting and talking with people can be a challenge, so events like the animal welfare showcase are great for developing these skills and building their confidence. They have all done brilliantly!”
