TWO Vale breweries have featured in the Good Beer Guide 2018 which recommends the best pubs and breweries in the UK for real ale drinkers.

In the 45th edition of the book, which is published by the Campaign for Real Ale, Boat Lane Brewery in Offenham and Pershore Brewery have appeared for the first time.

They are just two of 16 new breweries from across the West Midlands to feature in the book which recognises brewers who offer the best possible range of real ales.

Pershore Brewery is owned and run by husband and wife team, Sean and Elizabeth Barnett, and they only started brewing just two years ago.

Speaking to the Observer, Elizabeth said: “It is fantastic news. We are going into our third year now and we’re really excited about it.

“This is great exposure for the brewery. We didn’t even realise we were in the book until very recently.

“Our business has really taken off this year. Demand is so high we have to brew twice a week just to keep up with the demand.

“Whilst we may still be a young brewery, we’ve got some very exciting concoctions to offer.”

Ian Hazeldene from Boat Lane Brewery said: “We are really pleased to be in the Good Beer Guide – it means a lot to us. We are working on our beers all the time to ensure we stay in the guide and to give our customers an interesting variety.”

Roger Protz, Editor of the Good Beer Guide, said: “It’s fantastic to see a continued growth in local brewing.

“The first edition of the Good Beer Guide published 45 years ago was a call to arms for beer lovers at a time when the brewing industry was in dire trouble and the market flooded with tasteless, fizzy beer.

“How the beer world has changed! Today, in spite of closures, a growing number of pubs clamber to offer the best-possible range of real ales and we are still seeing remarkable growth in the brewing sector.”
