Charities urged to bid for a share of £50k council cash

CHARITIES, community and voluntary groups can once again grab a slice of a £50,000 fund being made available by Wychavon District Council.

The money is part of Wychavon’s annual community grants scheme and this year focuses on individual projects with the theme of ‘Community Engagement’.

Bids can be for all aspects of community life, community buildings, for sports or arts equipment, in fact any project that benefits your community and promotes physical well-being.

Projects can also be aimed at a specific group (for example, a sports club or team) or can include people from different backgrounds or with differing abilities, as long as the bid will help to make a lasting contribution to the local communities.

Last year 16 groups benefited from £50,000 worth of funding on projects ranging from purchasing new patrol tents to helping build a new village hall and providing an outdoor seating area at a community café.

Tracey Grubb, community development officer, said: “Over the years our grants have made a difference to many community projects across Wychavon and have helped improve the lives of residents as a result.

“We always have a lot of interest in our grants, so we encourage charitable, community and voluntary groups to submit their applications as soon as they can.”

Visit www.wychavon.gov.uk/grants or call 01386 565168 for more.

The deadline for applications is March 29 at midday.
