Charitable Pershore students support annual Christmas campaign

CHARITABLE Pershore teens held fund-raising activities for an annual Christmas campaign to provide gifts to children less fortunate.

Level 2 and 3 Health and Social Care students at Pershore College took part in Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.

As part of their personal development module, 22 students worked together to select a cause and devised ways to raise funds.

Students held a charity morning which saw them don their best fancy dress and run a cake sale, tombola and games.

In addition to holding the event and appealing for donations, students got creative in the kitchen to make cakes to sell.

Students and staff dug deep to raise a total of £225.

The group used funds to create 26 shoeboxes, each of which also required a £5 donation to the charity at a cost of £130.

Wrapped shoeboxes were then filled with items bought with the remaining money including hats and gloves, toiletries and toys.

The shoeboxes will now be distributed to children across the world by Samaritan’s Purse.

Julie Mayo, of Pershore College, said:

“The 26 shoeboxes will make a real difference to children’s lives this Christmas.

“Careers in health and social care often involve thinking about the needs of others and having empathy.

“The project was completely student-led, right from sharing ideas on fund-raising ideas to wrapping and filling the boxes, and they all worked very well together.

“There was also no financial outlay, and students had to collect donations and raise funds to fill the shoeboxes.

“I’m very proud of all of the students and what they have achieved.”
