Chance to make dream come true in Evesham musical

Evesham Editorial 13th May, 2023   0

A SEARCH for Evesham’s own Joseph has begun ahead of a production of the legendary Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Town director Eric Jones has issued the casting call to aspiring Joseph’s, eager brothers – or sisters – potential Portiphars or even the Pharoah himself.

Eric has been producing and directing drama productions including pantomimes, musicals, Shakespeare and murder mystery plays for many, many years, and locally as The Festival Players from 2006 when he and his wife came to live in Evesham.

Now he is thinking of Joseph, and plans are already in hand for costumes, lighting and sound, scenery and special effects – all put together for wonderful theatrical performances later in the year.

“We have a cast of adults and children already and have only just started learning the songs,” Eric said.

“Several teens have already joined the cast but there must be more teenagers and young people – aged from 11 to 29, who love the theatre, who love this show and would like to perform in a production.

“If you have ever dreamed of being in this show, this could be the opportunity.”

“For the few rehearsals we have had already there has been a great deal of enjoyment and enthusiasm.

The opportunity to strut your stuff as the Elvis Pharaoh, or the brother Joseph, or Reuben, or young Benjamin does not come along too often.

Although the show is many years old now, it has been touring successfully and to full houses for 55 years and was voted the best musical written last century.

Anybody else interested in helping with the production, technical or practical is also invited to attend.

Rehearsals are held Sunday afternoons at 2.30pm in Evesham Methodist Church.
