A FREE community event promoting a healthier life will be held at Evesham Leisure Centre.

Living Well for a Healthier Memory and Longer Life will be running as part of National Dementia Awareness Week between 10am and 2pm on Thursday (May 19).

Abbey Medical Centre and the Vale of Evesham Primary Care Network (PCN) have bought together more than 40 organisations for the event with the aim being to showcase the support available to those living with long-term health conditions such as memory loss and dementia.

Dr Julia Lloyd who has spent 27 years caring for the elderly in Evesham will be at the event, and her and other colleagues will be going on a 26 mile walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Other experts will be on hand to give their advice and information out on health, wellbeing, diet and nutrition as well as leisure and social care.

Representatives from Worcestershire Association of Carers, Wychavon District Council, West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service among others will be available to talk to at the event.

Worcestershire firm Parkinson Wright Solicitors will discuss Lasting Power of Attorney and Estate Planning.

There will also be a talk by the Falls Prevention Team, while Wychavon Social Services will be discussing needs assessments.

And there will be a host of activities to take part in, including art workshops, blood pressure checks, equipment demonstrations, food sampling and seated exercises.

A similar event was held in 2019 on a smaller scale and was supposed to be the start of many, but plans were put on hold due to the pandemic.

Carolyn Pym, Abbey Medical Practices memory loss advisor said: “We have all been through unprecedented times over the last two years, and as we strive to return to normality, I feel it is more important than ever to help our patients understand the help and support available and how they may access it.”

There will be free onsite parking throughout the event.
