A CHANCE to learn more about the devastating illness of dementia was on offer when the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Roadshow rolled into Evesham to raise awareness of the condition.
Vale residents had the opportunity to put their questions to the experts and find out a little more about dementia as the Alzheimer’s Society Roadshow, supported by the Evesham Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA), arrived in the heart of the town.
Organisers hailed the event as a huge success and Danny Dhadda, services manager of the Alzheimer’s Society said:
“A huge thanks to all who were involved in the event and the planning and co-ordination of the day.
“In total we had more than 200 interactions and 20 in-depth surveys were completed. We had a continuous footfall throughout the day, and support from the members of the EDAA was very helpful. We managed to increase dementia awareness throughout the day.”
Mayor of Evesham, Coun Richard Jones attended the event to show his support and said: “The EDAA provides people with information about where to get help and encourage those with concerns about their memory to visit their GP.”
Lindsay Roach from the Evesham Dementia Action Alliance said: “Only the community at large can deliver Living well with dementia”.
The EDAA will carry on with its programme to raise awareness and make Evesham increasingly a Dementia Friendly community.
To celebrate their first two years of action, the group is organising a ‘Knees-up Teas-up’ event at Evesham Rowing Club’s Boathouse on May 23 from 2pm to 4pm for people living with dementia and their carers.
