Chance to click and collect more digital skills

Evesham Editorial 15th Oct, 2020   0

A PROGRAMME of webinars and support sessions designed to help residents develop their skills using digital technology is being launched by Worcestershire libraries.

It is estimated that 4.1 million people are not online in the UK and that 11.9 million people have low digital skills and interest.

Local libraries are now aiming to help reduce digital exclusion and combat social isolation by providing free access to computers and the internet alongside opportunities to acquire digital skills and improve confidence online.

From Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23 people can call 01905 822722 between 9am – 5pm to request a ‘call back’ from a ‘Digital Champion’ volunteer who can help residents to set up an email address, connect with friends and family online, shop online or get to grips with social media.

Digital Champion volunteers have long been in residence at libraries across Worcestershire and during Get Online Week they will be available to help those who need digital support from home.

In addition, there’s one to one telephone support sessions to help people get started with the video-calling tool Zoom.

It’s called All about Zoom and it’s on October 19 and 21 from 10am to 10.30am and 11am to 11.30am.

These free support sessions will be via telephone with an adult learning tutor and participants will need a device (phone, tablet or laptop) and an internet connection.

There’s also All about: Learning Online (Monday, October 19, 2pm to 2.30pm).

All about: Selling Online (Tuesday, October 20, 2pm to 2.30pm).

All about: Socialising Online (Thursday, October 22, 6pm to 6.30pm).

All about: Cyber-crime and being scam-aware (Friday, October 23, 10am to 10.30am)

All 21 libraries across Worcestershire have now reopened and library membership is free.

The ‘All about’ sessions and webinars are available to book via the Worcestershire Libraries Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/worcestershire-libraries-18603259594 or call the customer contact centre on 01905 822722.
