AN INTREPID Birlingham fund-raiser is preparing for two tough challenges to raise money in memory of her grandmother.
Clara Salt, nine, will walk the length of the Malvern Hills this March before swimming 50-lengths – all in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.
She also held a cake sale with her friends at Pershore Leisure Centre last Sunday and raised £119.
The youngster hopes to raise £500 for the Worcester hospice which cared for her “little nanny” Jane Salt.
“The hospice was very kind to little nanny and I want to help other people who are very ill,” said Clara, who is a pupil at St Barnabas Middle School in Drakes Broughton.
“I think it is a nice place where very ill people can spend time being looked after really well.”
She will set off on the walk on Saturday, March 3 accompanied by her mum and dad and will complete the swim later in the month.
Proud mum Joy, said: “Both myself and my husband Dave are very proud of Clara, especially as she has organised quite a bit of it herself.
“It will be interesting to see if she gets to the end of the walk without complaining that she is tired!” Alice Brunt, fund-raiser at St Richard’s, added: “We are hugely grateful for all support we receive, but it is particularly heart-warming when younger members of the community come forward to raise funds for hospice care.
“We are so impressed with Clara – she’s taking on a huge challenge for St Richard’s, and she should feel incredibly proud of herself.”
