Celebs are in town for three charities cash

Evesham Editorial 11th Jul, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A GROUP of sport and TV celebrities have spent a weekend in Evesham taking part in activities to raise funds for three leading charities.

Arranged by Growers United FC, a team which raises cash for charities whilst promoting horticulture and agriculture in Evesham, an ‘All Star Celebrities’ team descended on the town to raise money for Once Upon a Smile, Cancer Research UK and Birmingham Children’s Hospital on June 25 and June 26.

The team, which included Reece Douglas, of Waterloo Road, Bill Quarmby, an Oldham Athletic player and Calvin Demba, of Hollyoaks, were part of Once Upon a Smile, a charity which helps support families who have lost a loved one.

As well as taking part in a charity football match against Growers United FC at Evesham United’s The Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium, which they won 11-1, the team visited the new manager of Marilyn’s Nightclub, Carmen Smeets, to celebrate her relaunch of the club.

They also visited Pershore Riverside Centre, where they took to the water to try bell boating and stand up paddleboarding with centre manger Alex Mellor.

Growers United FC would like to thank everyone who helped make the weekend a great success.
