Celebration time as school marks great GCSE results once again

Evesham Editorial 24th Aug, 2023   0

IT WAS all smiles at Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham where great GCSE results were achieved by over 300 students.

This is the sixth year of GCSE reform since the introduction of numeric grades (9-1, with 9 being the top grade).

To help parents and carers understand the equivalencies, a numeric 4 is considered to be a standard pass (equivalent to the legacy grade C); a numeric 5 is a good or strong pass (C-B grade); a 6 is the equivalent of the legacy high B grade; while numeric 7-9 grades equate to the legacy A-A* grades.

The overall results for 2023 have once again been wonderful, said a school spokesperson.

“The school is particularly pleased that 74% of students achieved five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including English and Maths. Congratulations to our top performer, Georgina Cook, who achieved 11 Grade 9s,” they said.

“Of course, there are many success stories and the results across many of the benchmarks are closely matching those seen since the introduction of the reformed GCSEs, including the Centre Assessed Grades of 2020 and 2021.

“To provide an approximate indication of the across-the-board successes, 78 per cent of our students achieved a standard pass (Numeric 4+) in both English and Maths, with 56 per cent of the cohort achieving a strong pass (Numeric 5+) in both subjects.”

Dr Tony Evans, Headteacher, commented “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to the students and their parents/carers and families.

“Our Year 11 students have been a remarkable and resilient group of young people who thoroughly deserve the outstanding academic success they have achieved.

“Our motto at Prince Henry’s is “Great things from small things grow”, and the GCSE achievements this week, coupled with our A-Level results last week, are a testament to this.

“The GCSE and A-Level results, are a tribute to the incredible hard work and dedication of the students, staff, parents/carers and the governing body.

“I am extremely proud of the entire Prince Henry’s community and I offer my sincerest congratulations to everyone concerned.”
