Celebrating dedication of community champions

Evesham Editorial 28th May, 2019   0

THE DEDICATION of three local people in the heart of the community was celebrated during Evesham’s historic mayor-making ceremony at the Town Hall.

Newly-relected Mayor of Evesham Coun Mark Goodge presented the mayor’s Civic Award, Young Sportsperson Award and the new Community Spirit Award.

The sportsperson award was awarded to Keira-Lee Staniforth in recognition of her outstanding achievements in gymnastics. Keira, who attends The De Montfont School, has represented her nation and has ambitions to go to the Olympics.

Maria Kwiecien was the recipient of the community spirit award. Maria is well-known in Evesham for her work within the Polish community and especially her annual organisation of the Polish Day, which draws in crowds to the centre of the town and shows off Polish culture at its best.

Bruce Taylor was honoured with the Civic Award which is given in recognition of an individual who has gone above and beyond to enhance the life of people in the town for his work with the anti-litter group.

Mr Taylor of Greenhill has been the main driver behind efforts to get waste off the streets and to educate people about not dropping litter in the first place. He organises litter picks on a weekly basis and can also be seen visiting schools and businesses to talk about litter and its negative impact on the town and residents.

Cheques for £1,140 each were handed to Coun Goodge’s three chosen charities; Evesham Shopmobility, Evesham Girl Guides and Caring Hands in the Vale.
