A TALENTED teenage artist from Pershore has seen his work shown in an exhibition at a leading Midlands art gallery.

Caspian Groom, 17, is a graphic design student at Evesham New College and has seen his work displayed in the Coventry Open at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

The exhibition showcases the quality and diversity of art being produced in the West Midlands and highlights rising stars in the arts.

Caspian’s piece of art featured in the exhibition is of a white horse and was the piece he submitted to gain entry onto the course at Evesham New College.

He comes from a family of artists and first took an interest in art at the age of eight. The Coventry Open marks the first time he has seen work shown at a gallery.

Caspian said: “It was the first time I’ve seen something of mine on a gallery wall. It was nice and it has made me want to try again – and maybe win one of the prizes next year.

“Animals are a big part of my work and at the time of creating the piece I had been working on a lot of portraits. I feel like my skill is developing all the time – I’m still trying to find my place and hone in on my style.

“I entered the Coventry Open after my tutor recommended it. I wasn’t expecting to get through but had hoped it would be a way to get more people to see my art.

“My dad is an amazing artist and always inspired me. I joined Evesham New College last year to help me further develop as an artist and it has been a great experience so far.

“I’m heading into the second year of my course and I’m keen to see where art takes me. It would be cool to have my own exhibition in the future.

“My next piece of work is going to be a large wall mural at college and I’m excited to get started working on that.”

Caspian studies Level 3 Digital Graphic Design and is one of 12 students on the course. It is the first time a student from the course has been exhibited at the Coventry Open.

Helen Scott, a tutor at Evesham New College, added: “Caspian is amazing. He is incredibly talented and developing every day as an artist.

“We’re very excited about his future, be that in graphic design, fine art or illustration, he has the ability to shine in a wide range of disciplines.”
