Cash will help offer extra support to sexual abuse victims

ADDITIONAL Government funding has been secured to recruit more Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) in West Mercia.

The region was one of 15 areas across the country successful in being awarded the money.

The ISVAs, who are commissioned by the Police and Crime Commissioner, are specially trained to provide tailored support, advice and help to victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse.

The additional funding will enable the recruitment of several additional members of staff, who will enable more victims to be supported, specifically specialising in supporting male victims and those who have additional needs along with ensuring victims have the right support to cope and recover.

The funding has been secured across two years, with West Mercia PCC John Campion providing match funding.

The Commissioner said: ”I have always promised that victims and survivors would be at the heart of everything we do.

“The addition of four ISVAs will continue to deliver on this promise.

“It is so important that we have the right people in place to help victims and survivors get the right help to cope and recover, and I remain committed to ensuring support is available at every point in the criminal justice system.”
