Cash boost will help to support victims in county

MORE professional support is available for adults and children affected by domestic abuse in Worcestershire.

It comes after £16million of funding was made available to 75 local authorities by the government.

The cash in Worcestershire will provide more specialist outreach workers with expertise in domestic abuse to increase the support network available.

It will also fund specialist workers to help advise the county’s six local authorities to ensure appropriate accommodation and support is allocated to help keep people safe.

Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Health and Well-Being said: “It’s great that we’ve been successful in our bid for funding to Central Government to improve support that is available for those affected by domestic abuse.

“I’d like to thank all those organisations that helped the bid to come together.

“The additional funding will help us to more effectively support survivors of domestic abuse and their children, keeping them safe and improving their future life chances.

“This new funding will aid 43,000 survivors and children nationally to gain access to the help they need as they move towards a safe future, minimising the impact of domestic abuse.“

The bid was made by a partnership of local authorities, including Evesham and Pershore plus West Mercia Women’s Aid, Worcester Community Trust and the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.
