Carnival will make song and dance for town charities

THE COUNTDOWN is on for this year’s Evesham Carnival which will hit the streets with a musical theme.

The 2019 event will take place next Saturday (June 29), starting and ending on the Crown Meadow. Evesham Carnival, now approaching its 91st year, is organised by the Vale of Evesham Round Table alongside a dedicated committee of volunteers.

Sponsorship has come from several local companies including The Valley whose generous support is crucial in ensuring the continuation of the carnival.

“The Valley is proud to again act as the main sponsor for this fun, traditional family event within the heart of the Evesham community,” said Fiona Spears, retail marketing manager for The Valley.

“It makes for a great day out and has something for everybody to enjoy.

“We want to help ensure the Evesham Carnival will showcase all of the local groups and charities taking part.”

This family-friendly event is a mainstay of the summer in the Vale of Evesham. In 2018 there were more than 20 floats taking part in the parade and £3,850 was raised for charities and good causes.

“We aim to build on the success of last year’s event to ensure that we continue to raise important funds for local charities as well as providing a platform for any local group to promote themselves to the people of the town,” said Adam Spiers, from the Vale of Evesham Round Table and on the carnival committee.

The 2019 Evesham Carnival will feature a packed programme of entertainment for the whole family running throughout the day, and at its centre will be the Carnival Parade.

The itinerary and exact parade route are in the final planning stages, and updates will be released in the run-up to the big day via the carnival Facebook page.

Evesham Carnival is an annual, free, public event whose origins date back to 1928. The carnival prides itself on working closely with local community groups before, during and after the day in order to ensure it runs smoothly. Since 1965 the lead organisers of the carnival have been The Vale of Evesham Round Table, who since 2015 work alongside a committee of dedicated volunteers.
