Careers hub boost for young career seekers

Rob George 19th Jul, 2018   0

YOUNG people looking to enter the world of work have been handed a boost after Worcestershire was named as one of 20 careers hubs around the country.

Careers Hubs are a central part of the Government’s Careers Strategy, published in December, aimed at improving careers education and to help better prepare young people for the world of work.

The Careers Hub is working together with employers and career professionals to improve careers education for the county’s young people and to the benefit of businesses and the local economy, as well as supporting the Government’s drive for improved careers planning in schools by September 2020.

The announcement follows the success of Worcestershire becoming the first area in the UK to successfully recruit 100 per cent of its local secondary schools and colleges into the Careers and Enterprise Company Enterprise Adviser Network.

This network is designed to support schools and colleges to work with their young people to understand the local labour market and offer employer encounters, which include a work place visit, talks in schools and meeting employers at the annual Worcestershire Skills Show.

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: “Worcestershire has one of the fast growing economies in the country and we need a skilled workforce to support future growth.

“We want young people to leave schools and colleges better equipped to enter into the world of work here in Worcestershire, benefiting themselves, businesses and of course the local economy.”

Worcestershire’s Careers Hub, developed by Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP) and Worcestershire County Council, will be made up of 40 local secondary schools and further education colleges.
