Call to help give a golden oldie a forever home

THE TEAM at Dogs Trust Evesham is on the lookout for new homes for golden oldies in need of forever homes.

The average length of stay for a dog after arriving at Dogs Trust is just 47 days, but sadly older dogs often find themselves waiting longer to find their forever family.

It’s certainly true of eight-year-old Lurcher Cross, Lacey, who has been waiting three years and Crossbreed Lexi, also eight, who has been cared for by the team since last May after her owner sadly passed away.

At eleven, Staffordshire Bull Terrier Branston, is the oldest of the three in need of a new home and having arrived just last month, staff are hoping he won’t have too long to wait before he finds his special someone.

Chris Slight, manager at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “People are often drawn to younger dogs but there are advantages to welcoming an older dog into your life.

“For example, they are used to living in a home, usually know basic commands and are more than ready to settle straight back into enjoying their home comforts. Plus they don’t need house training like a young puppy.

“They also tend not to need as much exercise but of course still enjoy walks so if a few shorter walks rather than a hike are for you, an older dog could be your perfect match.

“Last but not least, their personalities are formed so what you see is what you get.”

When it comes to finding their perfect forever families, Lexi and Lacey are both friendly, playful dogs who love to be around people and can live with children of secondary school age.

They would like to be the only pets in their forever homes, and both would benefit from being walked in quieter areas where they won’t come across too many four-legged friends.

The team say Branston is a very sweet boy who loves his food and toys and is looking for a quiet home where he can have his own chill-out space. He enjoys a trip in the car so is always up for a mini adventure before settling down for a long snooze.
