Cakes offer the sweetest way to raise money

Evesham Editorial 6th Dec, 2023   0

CREATIVELY-crafted cakes have been donated to help a hospice raise funds for its care this Christmas.

St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester received 30 iced confections made by members of the Wychavon and Stourport branches of The British Sugarcraft Guild.

Each cake will be raffled, auctioned or sold to raise funds for the hospice’s free care to patients, loved ones and bereaved people across Worcestershire.

Ann Newton, chairperson of the Wychavon branch of the guild, said:

“We have been making and donating Christmas cakes to the hospice for 21 years. Our group members love supporting the hospice in this way, and have created some great designs this year including cakes in the shape of churches, cars, and a very cute puppy in a teacup!

“We hope our creations help raise lots of money towards this great cause.”

This year, the majority of cakes have been snapped up already but a limited number are still available to those who would like one to raffle, auction or sell.

Last year’s cakes raised £5,233.

Ria Simons, corporate fundraising lead at St Richard’s, said:

“We always look forward to the day the guild’s cakes arrive at the hospice – it’s so exciting to see the beautiful designs crafted in cake!

“While the majority of cakes have already been claimed, there is a selection left which would make beautiful festive table centrepieces or gifts for loved ones.

“We are so grateful to each one of the bakers who help make our festive fundraising a sweet success.”

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment to their last days and supporting those important to them.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,100 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

St Richard’s relies on donations and gifts in wills for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
