Cadets put in heroic effort for fund-raiser

Evesham Editorial 2nd Sep, 2019   0

CADETS from the Evesham and Pershore detachments of the Hereford and Worcester Army Cadet Force raised more than £700 for Help for Heroes at this year’s Wartime in the Vale show.

Under the leadership of 2nd Lt Geraldine Miller along with supporting adult staff, cadets took part in the event at Ashdown Farm in Badsey.

Part of the funds raised will go towards helping the Help for Heroes Hidden Wounds service which offers cognitive behavioural therapy and other forms of psychological support to those veterans and their families suffering with issues including anxiety, depression, and anger.

Ian Baldry, from Help for Heroes, said: “Given the atrocious weather conditions on the Saturday, which seriously impacted on the numbers who attended, the cadets are to be congratulated for their sterling efforts in raising this significant amount of money under very challenging circumstances.

“We are most grateful for the ongoing support provided by the Hereford and Worcester ACF and in particular Lt James Edwards from their Worcester detachment, who is a registered volunteer with Help for Heroes, and acts as our point of contact with the ACF.”

Veterans who suffer with mental health issues as a result of illness or injury are waiting an average of four years before asking for help. In January Help for Heroes launched their Cut The Clock campaign to reduce this period.

Any young person joining the cadets must be at least 12-years-old and in Year 8 at school. An adult volunteer can join if over the age of 18.
