A BY-ELECTION for the Evesham South Ward of Wychavon District Council will take place next month.

The election on Thursday, August 10 follows the passing of Coun Ed Cohen. Only voters in the Evesham South Ward will be eligible to vote.

Poll cards have been sent out to residents in the area who are registered to vote.

Peter Knight will seek to retain the seat for the Green Party against the challenge of Conservative Stan Brotherton, Independen Julie Haines, David Quayle of the Liberal Democrats, Independent Matt Snape and Labour’s David Tasker.

Anyone who hasn’t received one and thinks they should have, should visit www.wychavon.gov.uk/elections first to check they live within the Evesham South Ward, before contacting the elections team on 01386 565437 or e-mail [email protected].

Voters will be required to show Voter ID before being allowed to vote.

There are many accepted forms of ID including a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport, a UK or EEA drivers’ licence, a blue badge or an older person’s bus pass. The full list of accepted photo ID can be found on the elections page of Wychavon’s website.

Voters will be able to use out of date ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. These can be applied for by following the links at www.wychavon.gov.uk/elections. The deadline to apply for the Evesham South by-election is 5pm on Wednesday (August 2)
