Budding movie makers to help prevent smoking

Evesham Editorial 6th Dec, 2016   0

YOUNG budding film-makers from across the Vale are being urged to take part in a competition to create an advert that will stop their friends from smoking.

The advert, which can be no more than two minutes long, is open to individual film makers or a group of up to six people, aged 11-25 years-old. Entrants will then be split into three age groups, 11 to 14 years-old, 15 to 18 years-old and 19 to 25 years-old.

Film makers must enter an original advert based on one of three themes – dating a smoker, not smoking when pregnant and not smoking around babies and children.

Wychavon District Council, which is running the competition, will be holding a series of film making workshops to help support budding film makers. The first workshops will take place at Pershore Youth Centre, King George’s Way on Monday, January 16, 23 and 30 from 4.15pm until 6.15pm.

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, who is responsible for promoting health improvement across Wychavon, said: “As part of our health and wellbeing plan we want to use young people’s natural talents to get across the important messages about being smoke free, particularly the importance of not smoking during pregnancy and around babies and children.”

Application forms for workshop places can be found at www.wychavon.gov.uk/events-training-and-workshops. Alternatively, interested film-makers can contact Clare Charlton on 01386 565182 or email [email protected] in order to book a place on the workshop.

Visit www.cutfilms.org/wychavon for more information about the competition and how to enter.

The closing date for films to be uploaded is 27 February 2017, and winners will be announced at the W-Factor final on 6 March 2017.
