A CHARITY that has been dedicated to serving the Broadway community for 25 years has received royal recognition.
Signpost Broadway, based in Russell Square, Broadway has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The award recognises and celebrates the outstanding work done by local volunteer groups across the UK. It is the highest award an organisation can receive and equivalent to an MBE.
Signpost Broadway offers a wide and diverse range of services to the community, delivered exclusively by volunteers in a caring and professional manner.
This includes helping people to solve a variety of social, economic or health-related problems, running a bereavement support cafe, assisting at the foodbank and operating a volunteer recruitment hub.
Chair of Signpost Broadway, Helen Rushmore, said: “I am thrilled that our group’s work has been recognised with this prestigious award. It is a wonderful recognition of twenty-five years of dedicated and selfless service by our volunteers.”
She also thanked Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council for their help and support.
Signpost Broadway is one of 281 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Their work, along with others from across the UK, shines a light on the vital work volunteers do to make life better for those around them.
It was created in 2002 to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee and was continued following the accession of King Charles.
Recipients are announced annually on November 14 and this year’s awardees represent a diverse range of volunteer groups from across the UK.
These include a mental health support network for veterans and families in Yorkshire, a group preserving an historic 12th Century castle in South Wales.
Representatives from the charity will receive the award crystal and certificate from Beatrice Grant, Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire next summer.
In addition, two of the volunteers will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace along with other recipients of this year’s award.
