Britain's Got Talent star to appear at Vale care home open day

VALE residents are being invited to care homes across Evesham and Pershore as part of a national scheme to forge stronger links within communities.

Sanctuary Care’s Heathlands Residential Care Home, in Station Road, Pershore, and Shaw healthcare’s The Hawthorns, on Church Street, Evesham, are just two of the care homes opening their doors to the public today as part of the National Care Home Open Day campaign.

From 10am to midday, visitors to Heathlands Residential Care Home can enjoy a performance by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Pippa Langhorne and her dog Buddy, who captured the nation’s hearts in 2011 with their musical performance.

The singing duo will be joined by one of the home’s care assistants, Alicia Sandall, for the special performance.

Mayor of Pershore, Coun Bob Gillmour, will then visit the Station Road home from 2pm to 4pm, where there will be an array of live music, garden games and vintage high tea.

The Hawthorns will be opening its doors to the public from 3pm to 5pm, where residents will be able to enjoy afternoon tea and a performance by local singer, Pheobe Appleby.

National Care Home Open Day is being supported by organisations including the Care Quality Commission and the Alzheimer’s Society, in its aim to create lasting links between care homes and the local community.

Netty Matthews, Heathlands’ home manager, said: “Our residents love to see new and familiar faces from our community in their home, so they are really looking forward to sharing some memorable moments today.”

Mary Tasker, home manager at The Hawthorns, said: “As a part of the local community, we feel it’s important to open our doors and let people see not just the services we provide, but the community spirit that exists within the care home.

“I hope everyone who visits enjoys the entertainment and is able to celebrate with residents and staff throughout the day.”
