WORCESTERSHIRE’S last remaining village band will be celebrating its 130th in October with a day of music making.
Bretforton Silver Band will mark the momentous occasion with a full schedule of events at historic The Fleece Inn, on Saturday, October 4.
The celebrations begin in the afternoon with performances from the band’s training groups:
1pm – Bret Set Go (Beginner Band)
1:45pm – Bret Prep (Learner Band)
At 2:45pm, audiences can enjoy “Tales from the Wash House”, a talk exploring the fascinating history of the band, while throughout the day there will be an exhibition of band memorabilia on display in the marquee.
In the evening, the spotlight turns to a Mini Band Night, featuring performances from three guest brass bands alongside Bretforton Silver Band:
6pm – Arrow Valley Brass
7pm – Alcester Victoria Silver Band
8pm – Avonbank (Evesham) Brass Band
9pm – Bretforton Silver Band
Followed by The Lockdown Layabouts from 10pm to round off the evening with a party atmosphere.
Food and drink will be available to purchase in the marquee during the evening.
Bretforton Silver Band Chair, Michelle Everall said: “This is a huge milestone for the band and for the village.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating 130 years of music-making, and especially pleased to showcase our beginner and learner bands alongside established local favourites.
“It promises to be a very special day for the whole community.”
Founded in 1895, Bretforton Silver Band remains at the heart of village life, bringing together generations of players and continuing a proud tradition of brass music in the Vale of Evesham.
The evening concert is free to attend, but audience members will need to register for tickets.
