A BRAND new gym is set to give back to the community by donating cash to charity for every pound a member sheds in weight.
Lift Up, owned by Richard Stovell and his partner Harriet, officially opened on Monday at the Blackminster Business Park and offers residents who are put off by big commercial gyms an alternative place to work out.
The new gym boasts a full cardio theatre with treadmills and cross trainers and functional zones which include kettlebells, battle ropes and medicine balls.
Members will also be able to choose from a team of personal trainers and a range of classes ranging from boot camps, circuits and spinning groups.
And every pound that members shed in weight will be converted into cash for a number of local charities.
Speaking to the Observer, Richard said: “I’ve worked with all the big operators at local and national levels and my idea is to create something that’s going to bring the community together.
“The demand is there and I’ve seen the local stats and two-thirds of people are considered overweight or obese. I think there’s plenty of room for a product like ours.
“Our product is designed to help people that aren’t necessarily confident in a big commercial gym and we want to try and provide a slightly different and more personal product.
“What we’re going to do differently is we’re going to create an environment that is welcoming to your average Betty. Your Betty that’s not necessarily comfortable in a big commercial gym and we’re going to try and cater for that particular crowd.”
