BOAT rides along the River Avon, an eco-friendly flower festival, and a display of classic cars were just some of the attractions on offer at last weekend’s Fladbury Walkabout.
What started out as an open garden event over 25 years ago has grown into a two-day community festival.
It features a flurry of family-friendly activities such as live music on the green and fun dog show.
Visitors wandered around 26 open gardens, enjoyed refreshments in the village hall and browsed a range of market stalls in the centre of the village.
A climbing wall proved popular with children and as well as the parish priest, Rev Sarah Dangerfield of St John the Baptist who was persuaded to scale its heights.
New for 2024 was a dog show which attracted four-legged friends and on Sunday a 3km fun run raised money for Fladbury First School.
Though inclement weather affected the number of people coming, organisers at the decades-old community event hailed it a resounding success with over 1,000 in attendance.
Mark Blackwell said: “The weather forecast certainly deterred people from further afield it was also a day for the village and we were pleased with the number who came out. “We got some wonderful comments.
“We even got the vicar to climb the wall so it was quite an event.”
He said 80 per cent of cash raised would go to keep the church maintained and the remainder donated to good causes in the village.
