Blueprint drawn up to focus on Bees' Needs

Evesham Editorial 22nd Jul, 2020   0

A PLAN has been unveiled which sets out proposals to create new flower-rich habitats across Worcestershire to attract and protect bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

The county council’s 2020 to 2025 pollinator strategy is aimed at slowing and reversing the dramatic decline of pollinators.

It also details how it will support a sustainable and thriving agriculture and horticulture sector, making Worcestershire more attractive for people to live and work in.

The new strategy was launched during Bees Needs Week, where people are encouraged to think about the ways everyone could look after bees and other pollinators.

Worcestershire became a ‘pollinator-friendly’ county in 2015 and is now the first county in the West Midlands to publish a strategy for them.

Laura Wood, senior ecologist at Worcestershire County Council said the strategy would support planning policy, increase and connect habitats for wildlife by the council, partners and other organisations – from primary schools with a ‘wild patch’ to owners of large estates.
