A RECORD-breaking Blossom Trail Bikeaway saw Vale cyclists saddle up to raise almost £2,000.

Approaching its 20th anniversary the bike ride which is organised by the Pershore Unit of St John Ambulance, the Vale of Evesham Community First Responders and supported by Wychavon District Council, Hampton Ferry and Cycle Evesham Vale saw almost 220 cyclists tackle this year’s route.

Some of the money raised from the event last Sunday (April 2) will be put towards the promotion of the new Plum Bikeaway which will be held on September 17.

The rest of the monies raised will be divided between the charities who organise the event to ensure they can continue to provide their life-saving services.

Angela Tidmarsh, co-organiser of the event with Bikeaway Ventures, said “We are so grateful to everyone that took part in Sundays’ event.

“It was the most wonderful day and the blossom around the Vale was stunning. We were thrilled to welcome so many newcomers onto the rides and hope they enjoyed themselves.”

One of this year’s entrants suffered a life-threatening cardiac arrest while out on the road.

“Thanks to the quick thinking of accompanying cyclists and the fast response of the emergency services including members of our very own St John Ambulance unit – the cyclist appears to be improving and we all wish him well for the coming weeks,” Angela said.

“Our thoughts are with him and his family .

“Thank you so much to everyone involved in this incident, and I think it just goes to show how vital first aid knowledge is,” she added.
