AN AMBITIOUS £860,000 school refurbishment at Blackminster Middle School saw the school open its doors to visitors including Evesham MP Nigel Huddleston.
The Mid Worcestershire MP was on hand cut the ribbon to formally open the new venue in front of members of the community, current, former and future parents and pupils as well as school staff
A packed timetable of entertainment then saw Mr Huddleston and visitors enjoy a traditional summer fete as the school marked its 80th anniversary in style.
The school, which is rated good by OFSTED, opened its new state of the art facilities which have come to life as part of the revamp.
There are two science laboratories and a design technology area featuring a food technology area and graphics space.
Headteacher Lorna Button said: “In October, Ofsted said we are a good school – now we have the first class facilities that our wonderful students deserve.
“We’ve been here for the last 80 years: we’re going to be here for the next 80 and we are going to be even better.”
Mr Huddleston enjoyed a tour by students and joined in enthusiastically with a number of activities, including the mini-trampolines used in PE lessons. 7
“The new facilities will provide an even greater learning environment for all of the pupils here and for those who will be joining the school in the coming years,” Mr Huddleston said.
“There is always a positive and energetic atmosphere at the school and it was a pleasure to visit again.”
The refurbishment at the school has cost around £860,000 and was funded from Worcestershire County Council’s Capital Investment Programme.
Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Education said: “It’s great that Blackminster Middle School has had the opportunity to develop its science, food and technology blocks for all pupils.”
