A FLEET of new recycling trucks for Wychavon District have been named but there is no place for ‘Binny McBinface’.
Council chiefs and the waste and recycling collections partner FCC Environment have now sifted through more than 300 resident entries for names for the 15 new waste and recycling trucks which will take to the roads next month.
Inspired by the competition to name the UK’s new polar research ship, council officers and FCC chiefs tasked local people to come up with 15 names to rival ‘Boaty McBoatface’ which despite topping the public poll was not implemented as the new ship’s name.
Wychavon chiefs vowed from the outset names would be used if suggested meaning from October residents could see their recycling and waste picked up by ‘Reggie Refuse’, ‘Sir Trash a Lot’ or even ‘The Incredible Bulk’.
Sportscars fans could welcome ‘Lambergreenie’ down their street while ‘Recyclosaurus Rex’ will come back from the dead to keep Evesham and Pershore tidy.
Music lovers will be hoping ‘Jus-bin Timberlake’ will go around and come around often while ‘The Ter-bin-ator’ will be back to collect recycling and waste.
‘Binderella’ will go to the ball as part of the fleet alongside the ‘The Flying Dustman’, ‘Greta Garbage’ and ‘Bin Diesel’.
The fleet has an international flavour too with ‘Trash Gordon’ and ‘Donald Dump’ among the choices while Star Wars fans will be in awe of ‘O-bin-wan Kenobi’ alongside ‘Amazing Anna’.
The winners have been contacted and will be invited to meet their truck and see their name on the vehicle. They will also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with it.
Coun Emma Stokes, portfolio holder for environment and street scene said “When we asked the community to help us name our new recycling truck fleet, we thought we would get a good response and some good ideas too, but we did not expect so many responses and some of the ideas were really great.
“We have been through each and every suggestion sent to us and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter, but there are only 15 trucks and we believe we have chosen the best names of a really great bunch, we hope everyone in the community will agree.”
“It has been wonderful involving the community in helping us to name our new trucks in this way and I cannot wait to see the trucks take to the road later this year with their personalised livery.” said FCC Environment Area Manager, Mike Stass.
“The 15 state-of-the-art trucks will be working hard for years to come collecting; glass bottles and jars; plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays; food cans drinks cans; cartons; and much, much more and now they will take to the roads already a part of the community they will be serving.”
The trucks will take to the roads in October as part of an up-grade to recycling services in the district to enable all residents to recycle more than ever before from home including the addition of batteries, small items electric and electronic waste items and lower grade textiles that are not good enough to go to the charity shop for re-sale.
