Bikes are at the art of auction after success of summertime trail

A BIKE sale with a difference will kick off this weekend as 25 of the 27 bicycles created for the Vale Active Art project go under the hammer.

Each bike had been transformed into a unique piece of art by a number of local schools, community groups and artists before being positioned around the town and nearby area.

There were a wide variety of themes ranging from the platinum jubilee to a mobile fruit and veg store and even a giant wooden balance bike built from scratch.

But for anyone who didn’t get to see them there is now a chance to view all the bikes in one place.

The bikes are now on display in the Riverside Centre near to Imagine where they can be viewed until the September 20. Not only does this give everyone a chance to see them for one last time but they can also decide if they would like to buy one.

An online auction which kicks off tomorrow (Saturday) and runs until September 20 will raise money for Evesham Adventure Playground

It’s the conclusion to a project brought to life by Cycle Evesham Vale and chairman Robin Walker expressed his joy at the finished bikes.

“We had no idea what each bike was going to look like until they were delivered to us back in May and we were amazed at the amount of work that had been put int each one,” he said.

“There are some very talented people in this town, we wanted to bring a bit of fun and colour to the town while also encouraging everyone to explore the area by bike and on foot.

“Evesham needs more of us to use active travel now more than ever and we hope that this project has helped people realise they don’t always need a car to get around.”

Over the past three months, people of all ages have been searching for the bikes to try and get to see all of them. One bike hunter said: “It’s been lovely to see something like this in Evesham as it’s really brightened the place up. Me and the kids have loved going out to look for them and trying to pick a favourite.”

The project has been kindly supported by Squab Storage, Halfords, Zenith Nurseries and The National Lottery.
