Bike track could be revived as part of £200k revamp

A BMX track at a popular Evesham park could be given a new lease of life as part of a £200,000 revamp of parks across Wychavon to be considered by council bosses.

The cycle track at Charity Brook Park was closed without warning by Wychavon council chiefs in November after officers admitted the track had reached the end of its natural life and the timbers on the track were rotting.

Council bosses called for local residents to make their voices heard over the future of the venue and revealed there has been ‘overwhelming’ support for replacing the track rather than doing something different with the space.

As a result it’s being proposed to install a new track to allow novice riders to practise their skills in a safe environment and more experienced cyclists to enhance their abilities without jeopardising the safety of other park users.

At a meeting on Wednesday (January 9), councillors on Wychavon District Council’s executive board will consider a package of measures for parks across the district.

In Pershore the popular wet play area is set to be resurfaced with a new theme to ensure youngsters can continue to enjoy it for years to come while a number of projects are being planned at parks in Droitwich.

The work will also see a footpath installed through Cotswold Rise running from Badsey Road to Broadway Road in Evesham. This will connect it to an existing footpath across Lavenders Fields to ensure there is a surfaced path all along the route.

If approved, the majority of the work will take place between summer and autumn next year and will be funded by cash from developers.

Coun Emma Stokes, executive board member for Environment, said: “Our award-winning parks are among the jewels in Wychavon’s crown and if these proposals are approved they will ensure they continue to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages for many years to come.”
