Beavers step up to help Guide Dogs

COMMUNITY-MINDED members of the 1st Hampton Beaver Scouts have vowed to do their best in support of the Guide Dog Trust as part of a nationwide project.

‘A Million Hands’ is a scheme run by Scouting in partnership with a number of charities chosen by young people for young people.  The name of the project reflects the membership of Scouting, which stands at around 500,000.

Beaver Scouts from 1st Hampton Scout Group have joined the ‘Million Hands’ project and decided to support the work of the Guide Dogs Trust.

After an evening meeting, Rosie, a working Golden Labrador, and hearing all about her training from Trudie Marskell, the local Guide Dogs volunteer, the Beavers suggested ideas of how best to raise funds.

The sponsored obstacle course won the day, with one Beaver being blindfolded to take on the challenge while being guided by a friend. For authenticity, the sighted guides dressed up as dogs!

After the sponsorship money from the children and additional donations were added up,  Hampton Beavers presented a cheque for £506.20 to the Guide Dogs, for which they will  receive a personalised certificate.

Trudie Marskell explained that the money raised will sponsor the training of a class of three puppies for two years.

The Beavers are looking forward to following the puppies’ progress through regular updates during their training.
