THE BATTLE of Britain was remembered with a special ceremony at Evesham’s Waterside Cemetery on Friday.
A smartly turned out party of pupils from Evesham TDMS, including four wearing uniforms of 233 Squadron RAF Air Cadets, were among those who attended this year’s Remembrance service.
Also in attendance were members of ex-service organisations.
Among them, The Royal Air Force Association, the British Legion, and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Association.
There was only one standard bearer at the poignant ceremony – Adam Willett, representing the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
The Mayor of Evesham, Coun Alan Booth, Town Clerk Jo Adams and councillors Sue Amor, Mark Goodge, John Clatworthy and Peter Scurfield were among the official party, along with Wychavon District Councillor and former Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Coun George Duffy.
The Rev Mark Binney officiated at the service and the last post and reveille was played by Carol Hall
The Dedication was read by 102-year-old Jeff Brereton. Evesham Branch President of the RAF Association, and Coun Duffy laid a wreath on behalf of the RAF Association.
Crosses were laid on the graves by pupils of TDMS and members of the congregation.
