AN ELDERLY woman had her handbag snatched from her after leaving a pub in Evesham with her partner.

The incident happened on Tuesday (July 22) between 10.15pm and 10.25pm in the town’s High Street after the 76-year-old woman left the Old Swanne Inne pub.

As the victim approached the nearby junction with Leicester Grove, a man approached her from behind and snatched a black handbag. The thief then ran off up Leicester Grove.

He is described as between 5ft 8ins to 6ft tall, slim build with dark hair. He was wearing a dark top and beige three-quarter length trousers.

The stolen handbag contained about £30 in cash, credit cards and house keys. A mauve coloured umbrella and a yellow medical slip were also in the bag.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to the incident.

PC Tracy Schofield said: “Thankfully the victim was not injured during this incident, but she was left very shaken. We are eager to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the robbery.

“We also ask for the public to look out for the handbag and its contents, which may help with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information on the robbery should call police on 101 quoting incident number 0857S of Tuesday 22 July or contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.
