A VALE volunteer has been honoured for his efforts at a major county award ceremony which celebrates the efforts and achievements of young people.
Alongside the efforts of teenagers from across the county, the Tryangle Awards also recognise the adult volunteers who make an outstanding contribution to the clubs and communities in Worcestershire.
James Smith was nominated for his volunteering commitment at the Vale of Evesham Special School, a school where he attended the school as a pupil four years previously.
When he left school he found it hard to secure a job and decided to offer his own time to the middle school volunteer team where his patience and positive outlook make him an excellent role model for the older students he supports.
James loves sport and gets the students involved with a game of football during lunch times and was hailed by judges as ‘one of life’s extraordinary people who make the world a better place’.
More than 80 people attended the awards to see the 17 most outstanding young people in Worcestershire presented with an exclusive ‘Tryangle Award trophy’ and certificate.
Local organisations Oakland International, Mazak, Fortis Living, Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Baxter Williams and rhe Margaret Westwood Memorial Charity sponsored the awards in a variety of categories.
Volunteers from the West Mercia Police Cadets helped co-ordinate the evening and we are very grateful for their help.
“Truly some inspiring stories from the young people. Well done on a successful event,” said Luke Attwell from award sponsor Oakland International.
David Hunt, head of manufacturing operations and engineering at Worcester Bosch said: “Supporting the Tryangle Awards and hearing the details behind real life journeys of the recipients was truly inspirational.
“It was pleasure to meet young people striving to make a positive impact. They are a credit to themselves, their support networks and the local community.”
