A WORCESTERSHIRE author is on the lookout for information and pictures depicting the rich history of Evesham’s Wood Norton Hotel.

John Hodges from Worcester has made the plea as part of research into his book about the historic Vale hotel.

Working together with the Wood Norton’s general manager Craig Webb and researcher Sue Campbell, John told the Observer he had made a ‘great start’ to his latest piece.

“Sue lives in Evesham herself and has already found me some fascinating bits and pieces on the Hall’s history.” he said.

The early chapters of the book will examine the historic mansion’s early history, the mansion itself and its architect.

John will also look in detail at the Wood Norton’s link with the Duke of Orleans and connections with other Royalty.

His book also promises a detailed recollection of the Royal Wedding in 1907 of Princess Louise of Orleans, grandmother to King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and Prince Charles of Bourbon.

John is particularly keen to hear from anyone with information on who lived at the historic mansion after the Orleans family left in 1912, for example those living there during the First World War.

Details about the nine year period where a school was located at the Wood Norton between 1925 and 1936 are also being keenly sought by John.

And the intrepid author would also like to hear about the years the Wood Norton was used by the BBC and plans to contact the corporation in the coming months.

“I’m looking always for interesting articles and pictures for the above chapters. If you could help that would be marvellous.” John added.
