Arts workshops set to enlighten

Rob George 16th Jul, 2018   0

FREE visual arts workshops for children and adults as part of the much-anticipated Enlighten project, Evesham’s creative lighting trail, are set to begin.

On Wednesday, August 1 and 8, there will be an introduction to animation workshops for children aged seven to 13-years-old.

Tom Cross will be running two sessions from 4-6pm in Evesham at the Garage Art Group in Crown Court which will be a fun introduction on how to make an animation.

Children of all artistic abilities are invited to come along and draw what they love about Evesham and will then be shown how to make the drawings come alive. Tom Cross has done lots of work with young people and children, making animations for all sorts of organisations from museums to the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Anyone interested should e-mail Heather Kelleher at [email protected] for more information or to book a place.

On Saturday, August 4, there will be a drop-in visual arts workshop for all ages at the Battle of Evesham from 10am to 4pm. Using ideas from the Evesham coat of arms and those of the leading families involved in The Battle of Evesham, people are invited to come and make a coat of arms that represents their own family.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, August 7, the War Memorial in Abbey Park will see Creative Solutions bring the stories behind the names on the Evesham war memorial to life in a one-off workshop.

People of all ages can pop along between 10am and midday and from 1pm to 3pm watch the story unfold – or add some stories from their own family. There will also be a chance to share stories for a film installation later in the year.

Jenny Davis, Arts Development Officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We’re excited to be able to offer so many free arts workshops this summer and let people find out more about the interesting history of Evesham and the Enlighten project.

“We still need any old photos people may have of Evesham, and artefacts too, which can be uploaded onto the website www.enlightenevesham.co.uk. People have until the end of August to do this.”
