Arts Council Jubilee fund cash boost puts a spring in the step of Dancefest

LEADING county dance group Dancefest has ensured their jubilee celebrations will go with a bang after scooping £7,862 in charity cash.

The popular group won the four-figure sum from the Arts Council’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund by Worcestershire Community Foundation

Crowns, Hats and Handbags, a performance Involving local dancers, singers and artists of all ages, will be performed in Worcester, Pershore and Bishampton on Sunday (June 5) as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations come to a rousing climax.

Dancefest’s Chance to Dance Company for dancers aged 55 and over, Reach Youth Dance Company for 11 to 14 year olds, and Barbourne Singers Community Choir have created Crowns, Hats and Handbags, a pop-up performance for community events.




They’ve worked with artist Kate Brookes from Worcestershire Resource Exchange on creating eye-catching props made from recycled materials, and making an uplifting dance performance with live song, inspired by the seven decades of Queen’s Elizabeth’s reign.

The show will be performed at community events at Diglis Fields in Worcester, Cherry Orchard House in Pershore and Bishampton Village Hall this Sunday (June 5).


Made possible thanks to National Lottery players and administered by UK Community Foundations on behalf of the Arts Council, the Let’s Create Jubilee Fund suppoers a huge range of projects throughout England with 44 community foundations awarded grants across the country.

Rose Beeston, artistic director of Dancefest said: “This award is a brilliant opportunity for our community dancers to join forces with a choir and artists, to create a performance that uses dance and music to track events that have taken place over the last 70 years.”

“This June, we’ll see communities across England coming together to celebrate a historic milestone for this country.

“I’m excited to see these projects brought to life in villages, towns and cities across the country as our wonderfully creative communities celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”
