Appeal after imitation firearm pointed at motorist in Evesham

A MOTORIST had an imitation firearm pointed at them during an incident on Worcester Road in Evesham.

Police have launched a witness appeal after a 999 call at about 2pm on April 30 about three youths brandishing what was believed to be a firearm.

The weapon was pointed at a motorist driving a grey 4×4 vehicle, officers are appealing for the motorist to get in contact as a key witness in the case.

Three teenager boys were arrested by armed officers who seized the weapon. It was then established to be an imitation firearm. The trio have since been released on police bail.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the boys walking between train station and local shops.

Chief Insp Brian Gibbs said: “I would urge caution with carrying any item which may resemble a firearm in public. Even if it is an imitation, it may provoke a reaction from both members of the public and the police which is unintended and may end up in a criminal investigation.

“Thankfully in this instance the item was an imitation and posed no threat.

“West Mercia Police take reports such as these incredibly seriously and will deploy the most appropriate resource to assess and manage the threat appropriately.
