THE amazing Evesham Volunteer Centre is gearing up to celebrate its 40th anniversary – and everyone’s invited to join the party.

The centre and its army of volunteers is very much the glue that holds the town together.

From helping out Age UK to running monthly luncheon clubs and providing drivers to whisk poorly people to hospital in Worcester – and much more – the centre is planning a volunteer fair at Evesham Town Hall on Saturday, September 9.

“We have decided to shine a light on all the volunteer community groups in Evesham and surrounding villages,” said Chloe Gittings from the centre.

“The fair will showcase the wonderful and diverse groups we have in Evesham that rely solely on volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to providing a service to our community.

“The fair will be free and we welcome everyone to come and discover a volunteering job for them.”

The volunteer centre co-ordinates appeals for volunteers from local groups with those stepping forward to help their local communities.

“We have around 70 volunteers at the moment, but could always do with more,” said Chloe.

“We have a team of volunteer drivers and offer a community transport scheme for older people who live in outlying villages or who cannot use public transport.

“Lots of people use the service.”

The centre also offersa befriending service; the ‘Poppy Club’ bringing people together, ‘Working World’ providing a meal for people with learning difficulties, there’s art therapy and much, much more.

The volunteers fair runs from 10am to 2.30pm and there will be free cake, teas and coffees.

The centre is naturally looking for more people to step forward to join their happy band of volunteers and help the local community.

They’d also be keen to hear from anyone who might have a well behaved pooch who could be a therapy dog.

Evesham Volunteer Centre is at Brick-Kiln Street, Evesham WR11 4AA, call: 01386 45035.
