Alex aims high for a fine cause

A CROPTHORNE charity chief is taking a step in the right direction as she prepares to tackle the three highest peaks in the UK.

Alex Daniels, CEO of APT Action on Poverty, will pull on her walking boots tomorrow (Saturday) to help raise vital funds for the organisation along with family and friends.

The Three Peaks Challenge will see Alex ascend 10,052 feet over 23 miles as she embarks on scaling England’s Scafell Pike, Scotland’s Ben Nevis and Wales’ Snowdon in a mere 24 hours – no easy feat and something which requires months of dedicated training.

“As an organisation, we work with some of the poorest communities across the globe and see first-hand the hardships people are faced with in day-to-day life,” said Alex.

“For instance, there are rural communities we’ve recently started working with in Sierra Leone that have very little money, they’re living on less than $1.25 a day and, as a result, people have very little food,” she said.

“We’re doing what we can to help turn this around by working with local community organisations to help improve livelihoods and food security and reduce malnutrition.

“We aim to help introduce education and training in communities, with an ultimate goal of generating employment and bringing more money into households to help provide safe, secure livelihoods opportunities and enable people to feed themselves and their families.

“But we need money to do this, and more, to help those that really need it and keep projects like this going. This is where the donations come in!

“I’m undertaking the challenge to raise funds for APT Action on Poverty because the work is so important and anyone who is able to sponsor me, no matter the amount, can be assured all donations will go a long way in helping ensure even more families across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia are able to eat every day.”
