Aiming to support the forces

COUNTY council chiefs have unveiled five new Armed Forces champions as part of the Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership.

Councillors from across Worcestershire have been named as Armed Forces Champions, pledging to offer support and promote the needs of veterans in their area.

The five have been appointed by district councils across Worcestershire. The champions will work with the Armed Forces Covenant Partnership and will be able to provide a perspective on services like housing that might be accessed by the armed forces community.

Coun Chris Mitchell, Coun Nicky Gale, Coun Richard Morris, Coun Susie Griffiths and Coun Martin Allen have all been appointed to work within their organisation to raise awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities at Worcestershire County Council said: “I am delighted to welcome the new armed forces champions to the partnership.

“The role of armed forces champion provides valuable feedback from our district councils and allows us to get perspectives from across Worcestershire. It also allows us to spread the word of the Armed Forces Covenant across the county.

“I look forward to working with the champions and hearing more about the individual issues facing the district councils.”

The Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership is a group made up of charities and organisations that have contact with veterans in Worcestershire.
